Why should we care about class structure?

Foundational to the reuse of rules within an enterprise is a robust and well structured class system. Yet as an application matures or as multiple applications are added, the actual class structure can become quite complex and harder to determine. Not having a clear understanding of the class structure will hinder re-use and can cause rules to resolve in unexpected ways.  

To address this issue, Rulesware has developed a Class Modeling Tool that extracts the class information from a PRPC installation and provides an interactive graphical representation of that structure.

What is the Class Modeling Tool?

The Rulesware Class Modeling Tool is an external graphical modeling utility for displaying the class diagram/structure of a PRPC installation along with direct and pattern inheritance relationships.

What does it do?

A simple wizard will guide the user through gathering the necessary information in order to connect to the PRPC database and extract the class data. Once the data is extracted, a graphical model of the class structure is displayed. This representation can be qualified by Rulesets and direct inheritance relationships can be revealed or hidden.

What additional functionality is being delveloped?

We are not done with the Class Modeling Tool. In the near future, the product will have the following additional capabilities:

• Modification of the class structure on the fly and import back into PRPC for use
• Printer friendly display of only part or of the whole class diagram
• Double-clicking a class will reveal properties and other rules
• Properties and other rules created on the fly in a spreadsheet editor and imported back into PRPC for use
